The yearbook helps record, celebrate, and remember each year of high school. Behind the pages, is a yearbook staff that works meticulously to capture it all.
Yearbook sponsor Ms. Kelley, on the importance of the yearbook, explained, “It serves as a visual and written record of a graduating class, capturing memories, achievements, and friendships that can be cherished for years to come.” It also gives many of us the opportunity to smile, laugh, or cry at our and our friends’ yearbook pictures.
Creating the yearbook is also rewarding for the staff. Ms Kelley said her favorite part of yearbook is her staff, saying “I really get to know some of them very well since I have had them for multiple years. They make me laugh and they make me very proud.” Yearbook editor-in-chief Mia Perez Interiano said, “My favorite part about yearbook is probably creating layouts for spreads. It’s something that I would say I have become really good [at] as an editor.”
While creating the yearbook can be rewarding for the staff, it also comes with its fair share of challenges. Mia said “For me, the most challenging aspect of yearbook is the final stretch of deadlines, where I have to meticulously review and edit everyone’s spreads. It’s a tedious process, but when the page is finally completed, it’s incredibly rewarding to see everything come together seamlessly.” Ms. Kelley also mentioned a challenge in “Keeping track of everything going on at the school and maintaining a schedule to cover as many events as possible.”
While our yearbooks are on their way, they aren’t quite here yet. Ms. Kelley mentioned, “Students should expect to receive their books sometime between May 1st and the last day for the seniors.” While yearbooks are sold out, there is still an opportunity for students to get one from the waitlist. Ms Kelley instructed, “Students on the waitlist should make sure to check their email that they provided every day beginning on May 1st to see if a book is available to them. It is important to check daily because they have a very small time frame to make their payment before I move on to the next person on the list.”
As we wait for our yearbooks (and for summer), The Blue and White would like to give credit where it’s due to our yearbook staff for their hard work all year.
