APK offers a variety of clubs for students with different interests. Here is the perfect article for those looking to get involved with the school!

Apopka Drama Club 

Overview:  

• In Drama Club, students visit other high schools, watch plays, have movie nights in the theatre, put together events, host workshops for members in all areas of theatre, and help students choose performance and design pieces to submit at the Thespian District Fall Festival.

Meeting Date(s): 

•  Meetings take place every Thursday

• The next meeting will take place on September 14th after school in room #836 (Performing Arts building).

• The Drama club is working hard to formulate a haunted house experience known as the “Shout Out Trail” for students after school on October 30th and during school on October 31st.

Art Club 

Overview: 

• Art Club allows students to work on their art and be with others who share interests in their creativity. 

Meeting Date (s):

•  Every Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in room 542A

Upcoming Agenda:

•  The Art club plans to host an Open Studio as a chance to make art. They also paint faces on Crazy Blue and White Day, a tradition that began in 1978.

ASIA Club

Overview: 

• The ASIA club invites any student who is willing to invest their time in understanding Asian Culture to experience Asian cultural activities, foods, and games!  This club is unique to AHS in the fact that it provides volunteering opportunities outside of APK and Apopka.

Meeting Date(s):

•  Meetings are scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of each month.

Upcoming Agenda: 

• The ASIA board will be planning several fun activities, such as a hot noodle challenge, for members to enjoy. They also have plans to organize a Multicultural Festival for the first time in APK history!

Key Club

Overview: 

• Key Club is an international service organization that focuses on community service and leadership, making it a great way to earn service hours.

• Every Tuesday from 2:30-3:00 p.m

• Key Club values member participation and takes what they want to do (service projects, meeting dates, club goals) into consideration.

Latin Club

Overview:

• Through club activities, the Latin Club explores Roman civilization on a personal, less academic level. “In short, we have fun, have food, and a common bond!”- Mrs.Katz (Latin teacher) 

Meeting Date(s)

• Officer meetings are on the first Monday of each month. For members, the meetings are TBD.

Upcoming Agenda

• They have monthly events that are for fun, such as an ice cream social and a Uno tournament; they also have regular meetings for students who are competing in regionals to work on their projects and study for upcoming tests.

Student Experience

• “I’ve been in the Latin Club for three years now and enjoy every second of it. We do a lot of events, and everyone’s super friendly. Even though it’s technically a language club, that’s not all we do. We host parties and games to learn about Roman culture. I’ve met great people through this club and class and encourage everyone to think about joining.” – Jaden Heard (11th Grade)

Battle of the Books

  Overview:

• Battle of the Books is a great opportunity to discuss different forms of literature. Their club goal is to read the books recommended for Florida teens. 

Meeting Date (s):

• Starting in November, Battle of the Books meets once a month up until March.

Upcoming Agenda: 

• Members plan on participating in the BOTB competitions. In 2022, they placed 2nd, and in 2023, they placed 3rd in the district!

Student Experience:

• “Since Freshman year, when I first started Battle of the Books, “I” has turned into “We”. With this development of the idea of teamwork installed in me, I’ve gained support, friendship, and understanding. I will never take for granted a place that has given me such an opportunity.” – Olivia Hodge (11th grade) 

Step 2 Med 

Overview:

• Step 2 Med is a great opportunity to explore different medical fields. They have had guest speakers ranging from EMTs to physicians.

Jararrium 

Overview: 

• Jarrarium Club breeds Opae Ula shrimp for the club to use in its jars. Mr. Fairchild makes sure to dim the lights, put out candles, and stream Netflix on the SMARTboard in hopes for the shrimp to breed.

• Jararrium had its first meeting on September 11th in 414 North Campus.

• “Jarrarium Club, if they like the idea of watching shrimp, graze on biofilm and algae for hours… that is the entire club.”- Mr.Fairchild ( Medical Interventions & Marine Science teacher)

Karaoke 

Overview:

• Share your voice with APK at Karaoke Club! An informal chorus, the karaoke club offers a chance for students and staff to show off their amazing voices. 

Meeting Date(s):

• Karaoke will have its first meeting on 9/18 at 414 North Campus.

Upcoming Agenda:

• Karaoke will work to keep the lyrics clean in all performed songs and invite teachers and staff to show off their “real or imagined” musical skills. 

I Design

  Overview: 

• Students learn about design by using Adobe software and other types of tools to be creative. The skills in design with creative experience and critical thinking will empower students to be creative in a creative environment with others who share the same passion and skills.

Meeting Date(s):

• Their first meeting was on 8/29 upcoming meetings are TBD.

Upcoming Agenda:

• I-Design offers an open studio feel. Each student has different skills and background knowledge so they have the opportunity to explore them and work together. Ms. Goldie (Club sponsor) guides students with projects throughout the year. 

Fashion Club 

Overview:

• Students should join the fashion club to meet peers who are interested in fashion and design, learn about different fashion trends and fabrics, and even design their pieces!

Meeting Date(s):  

• Bi-weekly every Tuesday

Upcoming Agenda:

• The Fashion Club hopes to organize an end-of-the-year fashion show to showcase members’ original designs. The club also plans to host DIY workshops to upcycle old clothes and participate in clothes drives to help give back to the community.

ESports

Overview:

• Esports hopes to build momentum with their teams and club in anticipation of next year housed under Athletics at the district. They offer four teams: Mario Kart, Splatoon 3, Super Smash Bros., and Rocket League which students can try out and later compete in.

• Club meetings take place on the second Monday of each month in room 211. 

Upcoming Agenda:

• Esports plans to compete against other games in the district. If you are looking for some action-packed gaming, this is the place to be.

Debate

Overview:

• Step into a world of argument and competition as you prepare for public speaking and debating. Apopka’s Debate has gone to the National level and has offered opportunities to travel across the country!

Meeting Date(s):

• Every Thursday after in room 537

Upcoming Agenda:

• Debate has their hopes high as they aim to attend the National tournament in June and earn trophies in the process.

Student Experience:

• “In Debate, I get to have a creative outlet where I can speak of a topic of my choice and hear other members’ perspectives on real-world issues. Debate is a great way to make friends and maintain a close bond.” – Samantha Faucette (11th Grade)

Anime Club 

Overview: 

• Anime Club offers a safe space for those to cosplay their favorite characters and form a community to appreciate anime culture.

• Cosplay events are underway and the main goal for the Anime Club is to cosplay at Megacon!

Needle Arts

Overview:

• Needle Arts builds a tight-knit community to share their passion for creation.

• Club members are looking forward to participating in community service to help the underserved.

Women’s Empowerment

Overview:

• The Women’s Empowerment Club of Apopka High School is dedicated to the proposition that all men AND WOMEN are created equal, and that pressing this point, in many different contexts, is essential to asserting and growing these rights.

Meeting Date(s):

• They meet on the second Tuesday of each month. Their next meeting is Thursday, September 14th in room 653.

Upcoming Agenda: 

• Plans to provide feminine hygiene supplies to all students in need. They also seek to fundraise and gather supplies for battered women and children in their hour of need.
