Homecoming Royalty

Homecoming is getting close. With that being said, let’s take a look at our Homecoming kings and queens. This year, our Homecoming kings are Josiah Robinson, Gavin Serwe, Johnny Simmons, Adam Chase-Azzaoui, Dani Griffith, Dyson Hurlburt, William Cabrera, and Jaylen Massey. This year, our Homecoming queens are Jennifer Cifuentes, Taylor Adams, Jada Robinson, Katie Prevesk, Skyla Abramson, Hannah DeClue, Bre’Yona Germain, and Jada Hughley. Below are the court members that responded to our interview request.

Skyla Abramson:

How do you feel about making the Homecoming Court?

I am so honored and excited about making homecoming court. At the talent show, I was high on adrenaline from performing a dance number for SGA. When I heard my name, it just made such a great night even greater!

What does it mean to be part of the Homecoming Court?

Being a part of homecoming court means being able to represent a school and be an SGA ambassador. This means showing leadership while showing off darter pride!

Why should people have voted for you?

People should vote for me because I am very ambitious and feel I represent our school through my participation in school clubs like SGA and Senior Class Council. I am also very passionate about showing school spirit and spreading that throughout the school 🙂

Jada Robinson:

What are you most excited about for Homecoming this year?

I’m excited about all the differences that there’ll be –This year being the first homecoming in 2 years since COVID brings a lot of curiosity and excitement.

How long have you wanted to be nominated?

I’ve always wanted to be nominated deep down ever since I could understand what it was. My fear of putting myself out there has always suppressed this dream. This senior year I’m reaching to reach all my goals regardless of my fears.

Why should people have voted for you?

I believe people should vote for me because of my contributions to Apopka High School. Although not having been openly acknowledged for my contributions, I have represented not only the senior class in sports, academics, in the orchestra, and finally, in our community. Me becoming homecoming queen, I believe, will allow the young girls to feel as if no matter how shy or scared they may be to put their self out there. The cost of facing your fear is nothing compared to the success you will receive for doing so.

Johnny Simmons:

How do you feel about making the Homecoming Court?

It is an honor to be on homecoming court. I am mostly excited because that means my fellow Blue Darters trusted me to represent our school.

What does it mean to be part of the Homecoming Court?

Being on court is more than just wearing a crown and sash. You become a representative of the school. The four words on our school crest are pride, honor, truth, loyalty. My classmates showed me through nominating me for homecoming court that they believe I personify the four words on our school crest.

What are you most excited about for Homecoming this year?

Being able to experience homecoming after a year due to covid. Being at SeaWorld adds more to it because this will be the first year we went to a theme park and able to get on rides.

Josiah Robinson:

How do you feel about making the Homecoming Court?

I’m very excited and honored to be on the court.

What made you run for Homecoming Court?

I was inspired to run for homecoming court because this gives me an opportunity to step outside of the norm of what people usually see, which is me on the football field.

What does it mean to be part of the Homecoming Court?

It means a lot to me, even more so that my twin sister is also a part of this with me.

Taylor Adams:

What made you run for Homecoming Court?

I wanted to run for homecoming court because it gives me the platform to broaden my perspective of the whole student body. I am highly involved in the school, but I want to be more of the role model and leader that anyone can come to.

How do you feel about making the Homecoming Court?

I feel incredibly blessed and honored to have the opportunity of being on homecoming court, and being in the running to be homecoming queen for this school year.

How long have you wanted to be nominated?

I have wanted to be a part of the homecoming court since middle school. My peers and mentors always pushed and supported me because of how involved I was in the school and how naturally social I am.

A pleasure and privilege.

How long have you wanted to be nominated?

I mean since 7th grade? When I got nominated I posted on my snap that “middle school me would be crying rn” because it’s true! Ever since middle school and when I figured out my gender identity, it was always a dream of mine to be Hoco King, or even just nominated.

Katie Prevesk:

How do you feel about making the Homecoming Court?

I am really excited to be nominated but also really nervous because I don’t want to let anyone down.

What are you most excited about for Homecoming this year?

I am just excited for Homecoming because we actually get to have one! Last year, without one felt as if the year wasn’t even complete. The venue is going to be great, the energy is going to be through the roof and the whole dance will just be amazing.

What does it mean to be part of the Homecoming Court?

It means that we are now representing the school and because SGA runs Homecoming we also are a representation of SGA.
