The first question to ask when talking about Good Day APK, is what is it? For those of you who don’t know, Good Day APK is Apopka High School’s resident video news site. Unlike The Blue and White, which produces the school newspaper, Good Day APK produces near daily video news reports, informing students about upcoming events around campus. Good Day APK also interviews students and hosts a variety of segments such as a sports highlight and a teacher/student highlight.
One thing Good day APK is known for is its many holiday centered episodes. In our interview with Keith White, a Junior and cast member of Good Day APK, he told us about one specific episode, “I think my favorite one would have to be recording the Halloween episode. That was really fun and it was all hands on deck. The whole crew was working together and it was really fun. It took a lot of takes, but it was really enjoyable.” They’ve also produced a Christmas episode and even a special episode for their 100th video celebration.
Good Day APK is at its core a news production class, and it’s a lot of work. We interviewed Mr. Vejar, the teacher of the class, who described what goes into an episode and how it helps students who might want to pursue a career in news. “We cover everything from pre-production to post-production, which includes scriptwriting, storyboarding, camera work, sound recording, directing, and editing. I emphasize the importance of ethical and legal considerations in media production to ensure my students are not just technically proficient, but also professionally responsible.” When asked how long an episode typically takes to produce, he explained how they spend a day filming and then another day editing the episodes. This doesn’t include the pre-production time, where they research current school events and plan segments to highlight students and staff and their accomplishments. But all of this work is excellent practice for students who may be interested in going into video production/news.
Good Day APK and its commitment to providing the students of Apopka High School with up to date news stories about their campus makes it a wonderful resource for the student body. For students who may be interested in a career in news/video production it is one of the best ways to prepare and get early exposure to that field. In our interviews we heard over and over again about the positive and fun environment made within the Good Day APK newsroom. If you’re unsure about that last elective on your 2024-2025 class sign up sheet, then consider putting digital video technology (The class name for Good Day APK) down. But regardless of wether you’re interested in the class or not, you should still watch their near daily uploads here on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@gooddayapk
