Steel Magnolia, the upcoming school play, is building a lot of hype. The incredible cast is putting a lot of effort into the show. There’s a big difference between this play versus previous ones–this year the cast is all female leads. Actor Kate Spencer (Senior who is cast as Shelby Eatenton) claims “Our cast is full of the funniest and sweetest people ever, so getting ready with them has been so fun!” The actors have a great way of connecting with one another, making those connections prevalent in the show.
This show has gotten so many people excited with the concept. “I would describe the play as a dramatic telling of the close bond between six women, and watching how they overcome a tragedy within their group,” Said Actor Anna Bryant (Senior who is cast as M’Lynn Eatento). Not only is the story about the heartfelt telling of ladies but the connection and drama between them. You will make memories along with the ladies in the show. The cast is doing everything in their power to make this show spectacular. Having a smaller cast this year has an effect. Anna explained, “We get to create closer bonds with fellow actors and it allows us to show more of our character and creativity.”
The cast struggles to not get sick as the school year starts and Germs are spreading. Director Morphew said, “…it’s been kind of a challenging thing with this cast to try to get in together.” They are working through these problems, pushing forward to get the show ready. Kate said, “Our cast is full of the funniest and sweetest people ever so getting ready with them has been so fun!” showing how hard they are working to overcome the issues to make Steel Magnolia the best it can be for the audience.
The Steel Magnolia cast is looking forward to a lot of things. “Showcasing our talent and hard work is the most rewarding thing about the shows… Putting on a show for the audience and watching them laugh with us and seeing them tear up…create such a connection,” said Anna. All of the cast is looking forward to opening night. Kate mentions how gratifying the performance and the audience’s reaction to the show and how much the hard work pays off.
There are so many reasons for people to see the show. Morphew said, “You know if it’s a story that makes you laugh and makes you cry, or you know, kind of tugs at your heartstrings, at least that is good to me, that’s a really great piece of theater.”. Not only have the actors worked insanely hard for this show, but the show is incredible and will touch each person as it has touched the actors. Actor Makalynn Prince (Senior who is cast as Truvy Jones) said “Everyone gets to experience a little bit of the love we have, even if it’s just for two nights that week.” All the actors encourage everyone in the school to see the show, as it will be an amazing experience and you will truly have a great time.
