LAST GAME

2022 FHSAA Boys Lacrosse District Tournament
Tue, 4/12FINAL – West Orange
1-16

Devin Mitchell, the Boys Lacrosse Coach, has been playing lacrosse for 8 years. For 4 years he was a goalkeeper at his old high school, Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee, 3 at his university FAMU, and 1 on the Tallahassee Tomahawks lacrosse club.

When asked about his favorite memory of teaching lacrosse, he said, “My favorite memory would have to be the game we played against East Ridge this year. We were down by 3 in the fourth quarter with less than 5 minutes left, and we started coming back. It started raining really hard when everything was tense which made it even more dramatic and exciting. We finished the game with a 12 – 11 win.”

Sophomore Elijah Nuebel was asked what his favorite memory was in all his years playing lacrosse. He told us, “Probably the several times we have beaten other teams on their senior nights since I’ve been on the team. Another one is when we came back late to beat East Ridge by 1 goal.”

Participating in sports can be intimidating, so we asked Coach Mitchell if he had any words of advice for new lacrosse players. He told us, “Come out and enjoy yourself! It’s a fun sport that anyone can play. Of course, we are competitive at the varsity level but we have a good time while competing. The stick skills come with time and practice but if you’re an athlete from any sport, those skills are transferable to lacrosse and you have a chance to thrive. Just ask any of the several football players that play with us during the football off-season.”
