Apopka’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is all about spreading the ideals of Christianity to our student athletes. You can see this in its mission statement: “To present athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.”
The current Apopka FCA president is Brendan Zeimer, and the other students in leadership are Jamayah Jackson, Ethalia Eduard, and Lexie Barnard. The Blue and White was able to interview FCA sponsor Ms. Taylor for this article.
When asked her favorite part of being the FCA sponsor she said “My favorite part of being the FCA sponsor for the past 8 years is the great group of kids that have been part of FCA over the years. We have a local youth pastor along with an FCA representative that both come to the meetings to talk to the students and help plan and organize activities. FCA is a student led organization so the students take turns leading devotionals and games.”
She continued saying, “This year has really been a rebuilding year for FCA. Pre-covid we had over 100 students attending FCA during lunch each week and then we had to go to an online format during covid. Our numbers are much small this year but we hope to build back up to more students attending. We have done FCA Huddles in the past that were themed such as a Fall Festival, Spring Fling, and Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. Pre-Covid the local youth pastor would bring in pizza for lunch each week but we haven’t been able to do that this year.”
FCA is open to all students who wish to join, and they meet every Wednesday during both lunches in Ms. Ellington’s room. Students interested in FCA are encouraged to join them in their weekly meetings.
