The Life of Pablo

Mr. Peters is an AP US History teacher here at Apopka and also our SGA sponsor. He has been a teacher at Apopka since the 2004-2005 school year and has been with OCPS for almost 26 years. Mr. Peters has also taught at Alternative Education, Lakeview Middle School, & Gotha Middle School. He told us the thing he enjoys most about Apopka is the extraordinary young people that he has had the pleasure to know and teach over the years.

What made you want to become the SGA sponsor?

I had been the Student Council sponsor at both Lakeview Middle & Gotha Middle. Principal Floyd at the time who worked with me at both schools offered me the job.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

I grew up in Canada as a child and it was a wonderful time of my life. Playing outside with friends. The change of seasons. Walking at night and hearing the sound of snow crunch beneath my feet. Crossing an endless snowy field with a few friends and our ice skates with nobody around for miles just to go to our favorite iced over pond.

What college(s) did you attend? What was your experience like?

I dropped out of Springstead High School in Spring Hill, Florida while repeating 9th grade. I got my GED at the age of 20. Then an AA degree from Pasco-Hernando Community College, A Bachelor’s degree for The Florida State University, and a Master’s degree from Nova-Southeastern University. My college years were truly an age of exploration for me personally. I was too busy working a full time job at the same time to really enjoy it as others did.

What is your favorite food/drink?

I could eat home made chili every day of the week. Ice cold water is my favorite.

What are three words people would use to describe you?

I would hope whatever words they used were kind. I am as flawed as the next person.

Do you like to travel? If so, where’s your favorite place you’ve been?

I would like to travel but haven’t had really the opportunity yet because of other necessities and priorities.

Do you have any fears? If so, what are they?

Well, if the SGA Vice President Leah Khalaf were only a junior right now and had yet ANOTHER year to go. That would truly scare the Wekiva out of me!
