The Marvelous Mr. Mogol
Mr. Mogol has been a part of Apopka High School since he started here in 2004. His influence on campus is known by many, from the athletic and medical students to the myriad of teachers and staff, along with everyone in between. The Blue and White had the opportunity to ask some questions to truly get to know him.
How long have you been at Apopka?
This is my 16th year as a teacher and athletic trainer at Apopka High School.
For anyone who might not know, what is it that you teach and do here at Apopka?
I teach two elective classes, First Aid and Safety (Fall Semester) as well as Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (Spring Semester).
What attracts you to athletic training?
I’ve always known I wanted to be in the medical field, and Athletic Training (AT) allows me to combine two of my favorite things, sports and medicine. There is no greater feeling than to take a patient from their initial injury, to rehabilitation, and their ultimate return-to-play. It is very rewarding to see the joy on someone’s face when they get to return to the activity/sport they love.
Have you enjoyed teaching here at Apopka?
I really do! The students and student-athletes here are amazing. It helps that we have the Medical Magnet program, so I get a lot of students that are interested in pursuing a career in Medicine. The faculty/staff/administration here is also very supportive.
What do you enjoy most about it?
I truly enjoy the interactions and relationships I get to build with the students. I also really enjoy hearing about their lives after they graduate. I love when students come back and tell me about their endeavors and successes.
Moving away from teaching, do you have any hobbies you particularly enjoy?
I enjoy anything that gives me a creative outlet. Cooking, photography, traveling, and experiencing different cultures and cuisines.
What are you looking forward to most post-COVID?
I am most looking forward to having my immediate family (mom, dad, sister and her family) over for a gathering. I want to give them all the biggest hug. Family is a huge part of Filipino culture and I want them to be a presence in my young son’s life.
