Batter Up with Aubrey Evans

Persistent powerhouse, Aubrey Evans, is a junior here at Apopka High School. Aside from her many academic responsibilities, she balances her role as an active member of our school community, as well. Luckily The Blue and White was able to grab some time out of her busy schedule and ask some questions to truly get to know her drive.

What does your schedule look like this year?

School wise, I have been busy staying on top of all my work and achieving great grades. On the softball side, I have been extremely busy with being at tournaments for my travel team from Georgia as I have been to South Carolina, Georgia, and here in Florida, as well. It has been crazy busy, but I have enjoyed every minute of it!

How are you involved around campus? Any clubs or other activities?

I am involved in SGA as a Junior WHIP, the B.D.N (Blue Darter Network), and also FCA. This will also be my third year as a Varsity Softball player.

How long have you been playing softball? What sparked your passion for it?

So, uniquely, I actually started playing baseball when I was 4 years old, and then around 7/8 years old I went and played coach pitch softball for about two seasons and ended up not liking it. So I then went back to baseball when I was 10 years old and played baseball all the way up until freshman fall tryouts for high school softball, and I have been playing softball ever since. What sparked my passion to switch over to softball in high school from baseball was that I knew I couldn’t realistically go to college for baseball, so I decided to switch over to softball and see where that could lead me.

What has it been like committing to UCF this year?

Honestly, it has been a big accomplishment for me, because I did have a goal of playing D1 softball and now that is coming true. It also relieves a lot of pressure off of me, because now I don’t have to worry about where I am going to college. Lastly, it’s very humbling, and I can’t thank God enough for the talents he has blessed me with.

What are you looking forward to most post-COVID?

I am looking forward to some normalcy with everything and just being able to see family and friends that I am not able to see now.

Outside of school, do you have any hobbies you particularly enjoy?
I love to hang out with friends and family and go fishing.

Do you have a favorite movie or TV show you’d like to recommend?
I have always loved Grown Ups or if you haven’t watched Stranger Things I highly recommend it!
