Apopka High School’s Junior Class Council is putting on an exciting event called Winter Wonderland. Students are thrilled in anticipation of this event. Hannah Cribbs, secretary of JCC, states, “ I am super excited for the event, and I think it’s going to be a great way for students to spread the word about JCC.” This one event will hopefully bring people together, as Shila Gillis, the communications officer, mentioned: “We just want to have a place after school where like the Junior Class and pretty much everyone that wants to come can relax, watch a Christmas movie, have hot cocoa and just kind of hang out before winter break. The best part about this is the event is free!”
One thing that is taking place is a ticket raffle. Natalie Davis, events officer, explains, “We are hoping that our main goal is to bring toys for us to donate to Toys for Tots.” She said that the reward for bringing a toy for a child is you get “entered into a raffle for a free prom ticket.” Another event is a hot chocolate bar, Hannah Cribbs added. She says, “My favorite part of Winter Wonderland is going to be the hot chocolate. Hot chocolate makes it feel like Christmas, which is exactly what the students at this school need.” Shila Gillis is especially looking forward to a “hot cocoa bar because we’re gonna have whipped cream and candy canes, and I don’t know ,I love hot cocoa, especially during the holidays.”
JCC hit a few setbacks in the creation of this event. “We were hoping to have it in the auditorium, but it looks like it might be in the media center now,” stated Natalie Davis. Jhenelle Francis, the president of JCC, acknowledged the same problem of location causing difficulty, while others commented that time was causing the struggle. Shila Gillis explains, “We were debating whether to do it directly after school or leaving time for students to go get comfortable and then come back.” Originally a toy was going to be charged to enter, but Mr. Anchel the sponsor of JCC, specified that the event will be completely free of charge. To encourage support for Toys for Tots, they had the brilliant idea to enter those who bring a toy into a raffle.
Despite any the setbacks, people are looking forward to going and encouraging others to go as everyone will be sure to have a good time. There is so much to look forward to, Hannah Cribbs expresses “Everyone is welcome to join us at Winter Wonderland, so consider coming out and hanging out with friends to put you in the Christmas spirit.” Jhenelle Francis mentioned “Winter Wonderland is Wednesday, December 13th at 1:30 pm. Anyone who donates a toy to us will be entered into a holiday raffle to win a FREE PROM TICKET.” We hope to see everyone who can go!
