An incredible student, Bones Walfish is a junior here at Apopka. He is passionate about art and is a very bright student who not only takes dual enrollment classes but AP, as well. He also has some fascinating insights about Apopka.
How’s your time at the school?
Not fun. You know, there’s been good moments. But for most of it, I’ve gotten called slurs a lot. There’s a lot of homophobic people. Thank God that I don’t look Jewish. Because every time they’ve told someone who I didn’t completely trust that I was Jewish, they’ve been very anti-semitic to me. So, you know, I’d say overall, it’s been pretty bad.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I really like art. I really like painting specifically. I’m very big on watercolors. I like writing but I feel like I’m not that good. And if you want to consider it a hobby, I am very good at fact-collecting of things that I like. Right now I’m really obsessed with Teenage Ninja Turtles. I could tell you a ton of facts about Spider-Man, Splatoon, and more.
What is your favorite memory from the school?
In my freshman year, when we did that protest, that Don’t Say Gay protest, where we all walked out. I’ve experienced a lot of homophobia at the school, but I feel like at that moment, most people were really supportive. It felt like most of the school was there because they cared about it. Even though a lot of the bad legislation passed and is still being passed.
How would you describe yourself?
I feel like I’m very passionate. I can get very obsessive about the media that I enjoy. And I feel like a lot of people see me as shy.
Are you involved in any clubs this year?
Not yet. I really want to be in eSports so badly. I’m hoping that I can do the spring tryout if my mom lets me. When Art Club starts up I will try to go to Art Club.
What’s your favorite part about Apopka?
My friends. I feel like my friends were the best part of this and what makes it bearable.
What classes are you excited to take in this upcoming year?
I’m really excited about AP Art and Digital Photo three. I love digital photos. I’m really excited about 3D Art. I didn’t get it last year but I got it this year. I’m really enjoying dual enrollment as well.
What are some facts about yourself?
I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I witnessed the FBI raid on the museum and let me say that I am one of the only people who have actual photos of the FBI taking the fake Basquiat. I have green hair, and I’m really good at art.
